    “The Battle of Ising”

    They called the place as “Ising”. A Barangay of what is know as poblacion of the Municipality of Carmen, A place very familiar to traveler from Tagum City, the Provincial Capital of Davao del Norte to Davao City.

    -it has a great contribution in the history -making of the National Particularly when second World War erupted in Europe in 1939.

    °it is now, popularly known as the Ising River in fact, a particular place between Barangay tuganay and Ising was even coined as “logpond” an indication of active logging industry in the area before Ising River served as a mute witness not only to the progress of the place but also to the heroism of the organize Filipino guerrillas who engaged in a week long battle against Japanese imperial army during the phenomenal phase of the second World War.

    -The northern parts was occupied by rag tag Filipino guerrillas belonging to the 130th infancy regiment with the battalion combat teams under Capt. Saturnino Silva, a U.S grown Filipino.

    -The battle of Ising lasted for eight days and nights of continuous fighting in Ising from May 3-10,1945 claimed casualties from both sides.

    -On the other hand, Gen. MacArthurs famous landing in Leyte the 24th U.S ARMY division that comprised three infantry regin ments also landed in parang, Maguindanao on April 17,1945.from there the American troops marched on foot towards Davao City clearing the highway of Japanese snipers, booby traps and mined roads.

    -The 130th infantry combat regiments composed of Filipino guerrillas under commanding officer Capt.Saturnino Silva.made a planned attack to capture the Japanese garrison across the other side of Ising River.

    -As recounted by pft. Torcuato Cirpo, a survivor of the said battle and a former combat officer belonging to the ” I”company.” ” I”company left, bincungan as dawn breaks and arrived tuganay River using bamboo rafts to road their amunitions.

    -They found out that they tailoring company”M” that advance towards Ising commanded by”Lt. Gregorio Perez”.

    -A messanger was immediately dispatched by Lt. Perez to inform them that private Salvador Regana was hit by a Japanese sniper on the forehead.
